The official e-Visa FAQ currently lists a US$25 fee for a single-entry tourist e-Visa and US$60 for multiple entry. The U.S. State Department currently describes the airport option as a renewable, single-entry 30-day tourist visa costing approximately US$30 in exact U.S. cash. Because entry rules and fees can change, check both official sources again shortly before departure.

How the official Egypt e-Visa works

Apply only through the Arab Republic of Egypt’s official portal at visa2egypt.gov.eg. The portal says applications should be created at least seven days before departure. You create an account, complete the application, pay online, wait for approval by email, then download and print the e-Visa.

Bring the printed e-Visa with you. The portal also lists a travel itinerary and hotel booking or details of the places you plan to visit among the documents that may be requested on arrival. An e-Visa permits travel to the border, but—as with any visa—the Egyptian authorities make the final admission decision at the port of entry.

What to know about visa on arrival

The U.S. State Department says U.S. citizens can obtain a 30-day single-entry tourist visa on arrival at Egyptian airports. Its current guidance says to expect approximately US$30 and to carry exact U.S.-dollar cash.

Visa on arrival can be practical, but it moves the task to the end of a long flight. You may need to find the appropriate bank or visa counter before immigration and keep the visa sticker and entry stamp secure. If you want the paperwork settled earlier, the official e-Visa is usually the calmer option.

Passport validity and documents

Egypt’s official e-Visa portal states that your passport must be valid for at least six months from your arrival date. Check every traveler’s passport—including children’s—well before booking non-refundable arrangements.

Keep digital and paper copies of your passport identification page, visa or e-Visa, hotel details and itinerary. The U.S. State Department also advises travelers to carry copies of their passport and visa while in Egypt. Store a second copy separately from the original documents.

Which option is better for your trip?

For most first-time travelers, an e-Visa removes one small uncertainty before departure. It is especially useful when a family wants every traveler’s paperwork organized together or when an arrival is late at night. Parents may submit applications for their children through the parent’s account, but each visitor still needs an individual application.

Visa on arrival remains an option described by current U.S. guidance for ordinary U.S. tourist passports arriving at Egyptian airports. Travelers with diplomatic, official, temporary, refugee or other special travel documents should not assume the same process applies; the Egyptian portal directs those passport holders to an embassy or consulate.
