For a first trip, give Cairo and Giza several days, add at least two touring days in Luxor, and leave space for travel between regions. A longer journey can add Aswan or a Nile chapter without turning every day into a transfer.
Start with the places you care about
If the pyramids and museums are your main reason for coming, Cairo needs more than an arrival day. If royal tombs and temples matter, keep the East and West Banks of Luxor on separate days.
A good route gives each place a purpose. One extra day with a thoughtful guide may be more valuable than adding another distant stop.
Five to seven days
With about a week, concentrate on Cairo and Luxor. You can connect Giza and a focused museum visit, give Saqqara its own day, and spend two days across Luxor’s banks. Allow time for the flight or other travel between cities.
Ten days or more
More time makes room for Aswan, a Nile cruise, or a deeper archaeology focus. Cruises follow schedules and docking patterns, so compare the actual itinerary rather than booking only by a vessel name.
Build around your pace
Families, photographers and travelers entering multiple tombs often need a slower rhythm. Tell your planner which experiences matter most, and ask what must be excluded to keep the route comfortable.
